SELF-PUBLISHING AND INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING: FROM A BODY OF WORK TO THE RIGHT BOOK

Alongside exhibitions, books and printed matter are the perfect solution to show photography. Saying so, we are convinced that photo book is the medium photographers must be used to.

We have a twofold objective

· Raise awareness about photo book and the specificity of its market

· Help the photographers in leading their editorial project.

1 – We will start with a small presentation of our Publishing House, showing a few of our titles and explaining the way we want to work with them. Then we will have one to one meetings with all the participants, it will be the perfect moment for them to show us a selection of their work and start thinking together on the project they want to work on.

2 – We would also like them to come with photo books they like or maybe mood boards of works that inspires them

3 – We will support them in the definition of their editorial project, and start working on editing and sequencing. At this stage we insist on working on the appropriate design regarding the subject.

4 – Then we like to ask the photographers to work on a small text presenting their project. To be sure they will be able to promote correctly their artistic statement.

5 – It’s now time to discuss about the format, the pagination, the paper, the kind of binding, and the typography.

6 – To finish we ask every participant to pitch his or her project in front of everyone.
